In stark contrast to previous years’ Icon Shots the 2013 image is rendered in black and white, with a theatrical, vintage feel.“We wanted to create something completely different to what we have had previously,”explained Festival Director Lindsay Bennett. “We decided on black and white, which creates an air of mystery and really draws the eye.It’s nostalgic, striking and it highlights the beauty of the model, the gown and the lavish setting of City Hall.”

Each year the Fashion Festival selects a gorgeous face to front the event and in 2013, 16 year-old Brisbane local Olivia McDonald is the one.

The fresh-faced beauty embodies the classic, feminine look that was essential for creating this year’s dramatic, 1930s-inspired hero image. Having modeled for the likes of Dior and Tory Burch and recently returning home after working in Dubai, Olivia considers landing the face of the Fashion Festival to be her most significant modeling role to date.

“It was really exciting when I found out, because the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane is such a significant and prominent Australian fashion event. To me, it’s so special to be able to represent that,” Olivia said.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane will run from Sunday 25 – Friday 30 August 2013.

New season collections featuring gorgeous pinks, mustards, tangerine and gold hues dotted the store, giving off bright pops of fabulous colour. Powerful visual merchandising at it’s finest.

Dreamy waiters were on hand to refresh the crowd with delicious canapés served on large punnets of wheatgrass, so unique and looked amazing!

To be released throughout the year from April 2013, the prints will capture the essence of the Montblanc brand, its products and clientele. The first print is that of The Woman, followed by The Man, The Couple and The Group. A number of these limited edition prints will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to UNICEF.

After meeting with Montblanc, Hess said she ‘felt inspired to create drawings that would reflect the enthusiasm and passion for a brand owned and loved by people who appreciated the quality of their products’….But before she could put pen to paper, Montblanc sent Hess to New York to participate in their exclusive bespoke service where her handwriting was analysed on a special machine. The process involved examining the pressure placed on the pen, the consistency of the handwriting and the angle of Hess’ writing style. A custom made pen, to suit her own unique style, was then suggested and designed. Hess was equipped with a tailor-made fountain pen which she has used to create the four print illustrations for the Montblanc collaboration. “When your life revolves around spending many hours a day with a pen, this is a big deal,” said Hess.

The Montblanc Woman will be the first illustration of the series of four prints to be released. It will symbolise the spirit of Montblanc through the woman who enjoys the brand. “The inspiration behind my piece for The Montblanc Woman was to show a personal glimpse into a woman’s life,” said Hess.

Starting her career in graphic design, Hess evolved into art direction and went on to work for some of the worlds leading design agencies. In 2008 she illustrated the New York Times number one selling book Sex And The City and later went on to illustrate portraits for Vanity Fair and Time. Hess has also created iconic accessories for Henri Bendel and illustrated the windows of Bergdorf Goodman in New York. Other iconic brands she has worked with include Chanel, Dior, Tiffany & Co, Yves Saint Laurent and Vogue, among many others of similar status.

Using high quality fabrics and materials, Sil personally creates and hand-sews every item,  following the entire creative process from the drawings right through to the final production. Graduating from Istituto Marangoni Milan with a degree in Fashion Design in 2010, Sil Gaviraghi launched her eponymous label in 2011. She was offered a 6-months internship at Ferrari`s HQ in Maranello (MO) where she helped develop the FW 2011-12 Lifestyle Collection.  During her stay in Maranello she was chosen to be a guest designer on Italia’s Next Top Model Season 4, dressing the models in her collection from her degree show. The episode aired on SkyUNO March 2011.

Sil’s style is devoted to simple silhouettes created with beautiful, high quality fabrics and materials. Her handcrafted collections give a sense of luxe nostalgia and leave us wanting more.
